Thanks to the development of new tools and processes in the textile, iron, and other industries, goods that once required days of handcrafting began to be manufactured in factories by machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tools were also being created as steel was being melted and formed into iron beams with the use of steam power. The iron ore could be poured into a mould once it was made, but the result still needed to be finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>German scientist Dr Schroter created &#8220;cemented carbide&#8221; in the 1920s, a brand-new cutting tool material that was far more durable than high-speed steel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the creation of cemented carbide 80 years ago, a number of technologies have been created, including coatings, ceramics, cermet, and polycrystalline compacts (sintered super-hardened compact). A technique for growing diamond crystals on cemented carbide surfaces has also recently been developed. The quality of cutting tools has improved as new technologies are created, and this has allowed for significantly faster cutting rates to be used.
